Why Are Some Teachers Helping Kids Cheat?

Last year, 60% of high school students admitted to cheating on at least one test. According to a report in Reader’s Digest, those students may not be alone because a growing number of teachers are cheating too. In the past year, school districts in New York and New Jersey have uncovered several organized “cheating rings,” where teachers either supplied test answers to students or they purposely changed wrong answers to correct answers while grading tests!

Another investigation red flagged 700 schools in Texas for “suspicious test results.” One of the worst cases of teacher cheating happened at City Day Community School in Dayton, Ohio. That’s where an entire grade FLUNKED the math portion of a statewide assessment test two years ago. One year later, all of those same students earned PASSING grades! As it turned out, teachers had helped rig the results. So why on earth would a teacher want to help kids cheat?

As is often the case, it all boils down to money. Sometimes a teacher’s salary is based on the performance of their students. Also, schools that perform well academically generally get more state funding. Schools with poor test scores often get punished with fewer dollars. That’s been especially true since 2001, when the No Child Left Behind Act became law. Experts say there’s been a surge in teacher cheating since then – because of the pressure educators feel to boost scores.

Professor Gregory Cizek – of the University of North Carolina – is an expert on cheating in schools. He says teacher cheating is “more prevalent than anyone wants to admit.” Since teachers are paid to be role models, their behavior sends a more destructive message to kids – who already see enough in the news about athletes on steroids, or CEOs dodging taxes. That message is: cheating is okay. So what can you do to make sure your school is cheat free? One idea is to force educators to sign a code of ethics and anyone caught cheating would immediately have their license revoked! Bottom line: School districts need to get wise to what’s going on, before your kid picks up cheating habits that could last a lifetime.

my personal opinion is that cheating is not a good idea because you need to demonstrate to yourself and other that you are doing the right things and if you get used to it at the end when you finish college and you started working all the things that you supposed to learn you don't know anything and you had wasted your the whole time you has "studied"you had really cheated you self because you don't know how to do things in life..

  3. I agree with the people that write in the link cheating on a test is the wrong decision to make. If you cheat on a test you going to be nervous if your teacher caught you cheating on the test. That takes you time because like in the video you are going to spend time thinking how to cheat like making the false label. Its better expend the time studying the material so you can feel proud of yourself and your parents too. Its better feel proud of something that you really did only by yourself. If the teacher caught you cheating in any test she is never going to check on you always in not going to trust on you again.

  4. On my thought, cheating is not honest, is a false impression, an ignorant act, a false proud, unfair to others that doesn’t, and something that at the end will harm you; even thou, sometimes is a solver, to “help” you in short time, is one dirty way to overcome an obstacle that is holding you hard. I had cheat but is something that I do as last resource, something that I prefer not to do, and an act that is antonymous to Kevin Del Rosario. And as we know is not something good or acceptable for teachers.

In this case teacher are the ones teaching students how to cheat. This ironic but it might have its logic sense. It might be because the teacher want to get rid of the student, or the teacher want to have a good reputation, or he just want everybody to pass, or because of money; if teacher are easy student will go more often to that teacher and even more they will want to go to that school or university and this a benefit to the university because more federal funding will be invested on that university, and maybe the grade of the school might raise too.

There is not much to explain, cheating is not good. If you cheat how can you ask for your that false position?

  5. As we discussed in the classroom, cheating is in everywhere and is used no matter the age or status social. I think it is dishonest to do this, but went I read about the conditions and the pressure that many people have to suffer to make good grades, to be featured in their jobs or have more economic solvency. This prompting many to making traps in order to meet the goals or obligations assigned to them.

What is important in this topic is that the person has to be aware of what is right and what is not. Many people trying to cover their actions seek to excuse and explain the reason for their actions. Remember that everything in life is relative and what is important is what we decided to give it importance.

It is ironic to see how our society encourages and even applauds some dishonest acts. There are also jobs that are based on performing these acts all the time. On the other hand, there cases went known to be some kind of deception in order to help or save someone. That is why I would like to conclude that we should put this on a scale and estimate the consequences of these actions and how it will affect the persons involved. In short this is a very complex and deep topic, and should be left to the opinion of each individual.

I don't think cheating is such a bad thing.
The problem from my point of view is the Education Business and trying to be the best at the class you think you need more. Nowadays the education is a business and sometimes they make you take some classes that wont help you at all on what you want to do in the future. When you get to that class, you just want pass it so that you can continue your career. There is where you cheat.
The other thing is near to the other one. When you get to a class you know or think you wont need, you just don't put effort on that class and you just cheat in order to do it quick and have time to the other classes you have that are more important. And talking with the truth, there are some classes that we know they don't even worth our time and money.
Cheating is not that bad always. The bad thing about cheating comes when there are people that don't want to study at all. They just don't do anything good and get into a mediocre state.

Cheating is no good at all, if you cheat then what are you learning? Right now we are studying to be a good professional if you cheat then how are you going to work properly? Plus you can get in serious problems if you get caught. I kinda understand about the cheating in school if students don't get good grades then there will be no funds to the school.

I understand that cheating in school is not a good deed. I agree with most of the comments because we have to study and do the works by our efforts. Smart students don’t need to cheat. And smart student are successful in their lives.

  10. Im gonna be honest i have cheated before and almost 99% of the student population have. Im no different from anyone els i make mistakes witch i think cheating is one, but i think that sometimes people get out of proportion and start cheating on everything els. My point is that if u cheat i time i think its ok but if u started cheating nonstop like in the story El Genio you will never learn anything. Teachers helping the students cheat thats just simply unacceptable they are the ones who should give an example to us young adults and teach because they love it not because he/she need the money.

I sincerely think that cheating is neither bad nor good. It’s clear that people who cheat eventually get caught and then end up looking stupid. However people have different reasons for cheating. For instance I never cheated on a test until I got to high school. In my high school there was a teacher that never put anything that we studied in the exams so we had to resort to cheating in order to get a good grade in that class, it wasn’t easy but not impossible either. He had this nasty habit of smoking, so whenever he gave an exam he would go out for a smoke so we took that opportunity and opened the text books in order to find the answers. Yeah I agree that if you cheat all the time, well you are only cheating yourself. But sometimes situations in life force you to take such measures. I am not proud of cheating because I know that I’m not proving myself, what I know. Even though a lot of people say that cheating is wrong and everything, I think it depends on the situation. It’s just like Sigmund Freud’s statement, he told the story of a man whose wife is sick but doesn’t have any money to buy the medications, so he decides to steal the medicine to make his wife better, now he asked was it wrong for him to do that, is he a bad man for doing it? If you think about it it’s almost the same. You just have to know and judge when it’s ok and when it’s not.

All students who have committed acts of premeditated academic dishonesty in any evaluation will receive as a sanction, the first time, at least the automatic censure from the corresponding field. In case of committing the same acts, you shall be cancelled the tuition in final form in any institution.
In the case of students who commit dishonest circumstantial attitudes during a review or input the teacher in money, will prevent the continuation of the examination, the must leave the room with him as punishment, at least, the rating of zero in the review.
The best antidote to the deceit and dishonesty is the model of honest, upright parents and that implement strong values. Children copied almost everything we do. Parents and teachers mustset an example for them and must also show a genuine interest for what kids do. The second best antidote to the deception and dishonesty is that teachers that transmit to their students the love of learning, students will have a higher concept of the importance of studying and help you grow in your professional environment.

People think that they will solve everything by cheating; trying to solve their problems quickly and effortlessly. But, what would they do when they faced with a problem and don’t know the answer, an answer that they supposed to already know, but don’t know because they did only cheat in class?
Cheating is lying yourself, and everybody else. You just become into a fake. And no progress you’ll found in your life, and only delay you’ll bring to the society.

  14. Wow this is good to know. True some teachers cheat to just get rid of the students and its obvious they just to it for the money, they are not even close to know how to be a teacher if they do cheating. This made me really angry. Teachers are supposed to teach good habits and help raise their students also to prepare them for when they reach higher levels the dont have difficulties and so they can be at the same level not giving an A grade equals F for doing such a lie. They are not learning anything but cheating. Is way better to do things by yourself if not then you are just lying to everyone and most to yourself. At the end your gonna know and you will regreat it because you didnt learn anything but to be just a fascade of someone you are not. People can change and do better is up to them realize it.

There's a fair amount of cheating going on especially in college students and students are not that worried about. When students cheat teacher and professors come to think I’m that bad teaching students that there are cheating on my works and assignments. That is wen teachers get tired of trying to teach student and start to help students to cheat. There are different ways of cheating: copying a paper from others, little papers on test, plagiarism, and more. When teachers start to help students on cheat is describing itself as a processor as an educator. Professor can sometimes help a student or two but when it comes to a hold group or grade that’s bad. Some educators can’t stand that there failed in their class or in a test and start to change the answers or say the answer out loud.

Like I sed before cheating is not that bad but wen it comes like an behavior is not god.
